My name is Rory Marsden. When my two children were young, they each had a small sailing dinghy and we would spend every school holiday sailing on the Norfolk Broads. We have always lived here, in Brundall, and we could cycle down to the river and be out on the water within half an hour.

Those days were a golden time, never to be forgotten. We held races, played games on Surlingham Broad and organised mock-battles; then there would be a Sailors’ Picnic, or we might sail across to Coldham Hall Inn for lunch. Sometimes we would spend the night anchored in the reeds, sleeping under the stars. My son and daughter had a wonderful “Swallows and Amazons” childhood, carefree and full of adventure.

When my children grew up and left home, I converted one of my now empty bedrooms into The Buttery. It has an en-suite shower room and its own separate entrance. I replaced all the furniture and modified the room to the needs of my guests. They often comment that I have “thought of everything!” It’s lovely to read the warm and generous words written by happy guests at The Buttery.
If you are lured by the magic of the Norfolk Broads, please do come and stay here. The Buttery is modern, comfortable accommodation in a Broadland village with many convenient shops and good links to Norwich, Great Yarmouth and the rest of the county. It is an ideal base from which to explore.
