Attractions

The Buttery is the ideal location from which to explore Norfolk. On your doorstep are the iconic Norfolk Broads, a network of rivers and lakes of different sizes, home to a fabulous array of wildlife.

A boat trip from Brundall, Wroxham or Stalham will take you back in time to a more peaceful way of life with less noise, less bustle and more time to look around. The coast is within easy reach from The Buttery: go east towards Caister and Great Yarmouth, or north to our beautiful north Norfolk beaches.

If you love birdwatching or any kind of wildlife, Strumpshaw Fen, an RSPB reserve, is only a few minutes away by car, and there you can access the River Yare on foot.

There are many good walks, either direct from The Buttery or a short drive away. You and your dog will love Braydeston Hills, Burlingham Woods and many other places. There’s more information inside The Buttery to tempt you to explore some lovely, peaceful or exciting new places!

The fine city of Norwich is very easy to get to. Multi-storey carparks are signposted from the entrance to the city, but it’s often easier to take the bus or the train, with stations and stops within walking distance of The Buttery. Norwich has a wonderful medieval quarter, a beautiful old cathedral, a Norman castle with museums, and a permanent covered market. It is a wonderful mixture of old and new!

Children’s attractions include Bewilderwood, Pleasurewood Hills, the high ropes at Go Ape in Thetford Forest and many animal centres, junior farms and craft workshops. During the summer, there are activities up and down the Norfolk Broads, all aimed at children and families.

Beaches are not far from The Buttery. Of course there is the Pleasure Beach at Great Yarmouth, but if you’re after a quieter feel, try Winterton Beach, with its dunes, coastal path and miles of sand to play on.

Dogs are welcome on many of Norfolk’s beaches, including Winterton.
